A freeing way to live

“Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a child. What became of it?”

Excerpt From: The Editors, “365 Days of Writing Prompts.” iBooks.

I don’t think I was ever attached to anything as a child. Either things just came and went with me or I simply could not remember a time when I felt attached to a particular possession.

This sentiment still rings true now that I’m an adult. There are very few things that I consider myself “incredibly” attached to — my Macbook Air and my iPhone, for instance — but if there ever comes a time that these things need to go away, I would say it’s not the end of the world for me.

I’ve never been one to consider having or buying material things in order to boost my self-esteem. Material things made me feel good because of the things I could do with them and the opportunities they offer, not merely because I own them.

If everything is temporary, then we never really possess anything forever. For me, it made no sense to be attached to possessions. As ever, I do what I can with what I have wherever I am. It’s a freeing way to live.
