It’s okay to have imperfections

“Imperfections — in things, in people, in places — add character to life. Tell us about an imperfection that you cherish.”

Excerpt From: The Editors, “365 Days of Writing Prompts.” iBooks.

My imperfections are the pimple/ acne scars on my face. I find them extremely frustrating most days. I just wish they’d disappear. But then, without them I wouldn’t have realized how important it is to take care of my skin.

I didn’t use to have these scars and pimple marks on my face. I used to have some kind of glow especially when I was younger. But, as luck would have it, I came in to get a facial one day and it ended up being a disaster. From that time on, I believe my pores got “opened” and it became more prone to acne.

Yes, I guess I do regret that particular point in my skin’s life. Oh, how I wish I didn’t do that! Not that all facials are bad. It’s just that one facial that did it!

And it makes me laugh inside how one stupid and vain move can change my entire physical look dramatically.

And when I say “dramatically”, I mean it literally because these pimples have caused so much drama since I had them. It’s pathetic to even think about now.

The fact is, it has all happened. It’s done. I have them now on my face. I can’t just erase them unless I have the financial capacity or the extreme desire to do so.

I just have to accept these scars. I just have to keep in mind that it’s only physical — that everything about my skin and my physical self was going to turn into an older version anyway. That nothing is ever permanent — especially youth.

I’m just super thankful for the times when I enjoyed my youth and that nice glow I had. And I’m still thankful to simply be alive and enjoying life as it is.

Imperfections don’t always have to be the enemy. Sometimes, ironically, they’re the perfect stepping stones to life lessons you wouldn’t get otherwise if things were always the way you wanted them to be. 🙂
