I finished re-branding in just one day.
But before the current re-brand, it took me weeks of thinking about, planning, and poring over how my website should look like.
I even enlisted myself to branding/ re-branding courses, and read numerous website building articles, marketing trends, tactics, tips, strategies, branding checklists, etc. You name it, I read it.
During the time I was consuming all that information, I never quite got to the point where I was finally doing something about my website… until yesterday.
Implementation can be so elusive. Sometimes the simple act of starting something can be so daunting. You might be procrastinating because you feel you aren’t prepared enough to launch or publish. But honestly…
Spending all the time in the world planning will not matter unless you make your move.
So yesterday was the day.
The only thing I put my mind to for this re-brand? Was to keep everything S-I-M-P-L-E.
How you can inculcate simplicity to re-brand your site faster:
Use a theme.You may think this is counter-intuitive. After all, your brand should reflect you and/ or your business. What better way to express what you or your business is about by customizing your website from the ground up, am I right?And you have a point. The purpose of re-branding is to update your website to reflect the current season you are in.nSo why use themes? Because themes are pretty easy to setup (not to mention cost effective). Once you find the theme that feels and looks right for you, you can always tweak it a bit more later to express your brand in a more meaningful way… which leads me to the next step.
Tweak your theme. Contrary to what most web design experts might say, you can always create your logo after you’ve set up your site.I think putting the logo last is the best way to re-brand faster as it may help you save time that could be used for creating the basic setup of your site instead.nThis is exactly what I did in my current website. After settling for a theme by SiteOrigin (which by the way is also the same group that built the very handy WordPress plugin, Page Builder), I used my old fonts from my the previous version of this website and then came up with the logo afterwards.
- Fonts. I can’t emphasize enough how important fonts are since most blogs contain text.Canva says fonts used for the web are “often a sans-serif font, or an unembellished serif.” This is so that text is displayed clearly and easy to read. - Colors. For color, I honestly had a hard time deciding as I wanted to put all the colors in the world on my website. But then I figured I was more of a minimalist (hence, the black and white + yellow). Lauren from Elle and Company Design taught me a lot about color psychology for branding in her blog post.
Now that you have the main look of your site in place, you can then focus on writing and editing your content + copy to complete your website.
I know my steps are simple but, yep, that’s the point. I wanted to re-brand in a fast and simple way so I can focus more on what I love to do most: writing.
The important thing to remember from all this is to get yourself out there now.
Launch now because then you can spend the rest of your time creating content for your website once it’s up and running. I don’t much believe in too much planning. At least not anymore. It will not only lead to overthinking but also, more specifically, procrastination and that’s not a good sign.
Keep things simple. Decide. Everything is a choice but you don’t need to beat yourself up to arrive at your final decision.
Simply decide what you want your website to look like in a way that reflects you or your business. Go with it and tweak the rest.
